BCAAs, or branched-chain amino acids, have become a staple supplement for many bodybuilders and dieters since they were first introduced as a dietary supplement. In fact, this supplement has been studied extensively for its many different benefits. If you aren’t currently supplementing with BCAAs, here are some of the reasons you consider adding them to your daily supplement regimen.

If you are reading this around the time it was originally posted, you likely are slimming down for the upcoming beach season. When you are cutting, your body won’t be able to decipher the difference between fat and muscle as it begins to shed weight. Unfortunately, this means that some of your hard-earned gains could be lost during your dieting process.

BCAAs are crucial for protein synthesis and have been found to limit muscle atrophy while the body is in a catabolic state. This means that as long as your protein synthesis rate is higher than your protein breakdown rate, you will be more likely to preserve muscle mass while burning fat stores. Supplementing with BCAAs may be the key to increasing your protein synthesis rate to achieve this state.

While BCAAs are available through whey protein, they require digestion in order to be absorbed. When taken in supplement form, BCAAs are absorbed quickly, without the need for digestion, to provide immediate benefits. This may ultimately provide immediate assistance in protein synthesis while also decreasing the rate of protein degradation within the body. While there are many more benefits associated with this supplement, these benefits alone make it worthwhile.
