In the body, 1-Androsterone is converted to 1-androstenediol and 1-Androstenedione. Both of these metabolites can then be converted to 1-Testosterone, which is where most of the effects come from. There is no conversion to estrogen. Moderate gains of lean muscle mass and strength can be expected, but users should not expect rapid increases in size or weight with this compound since extra-cellular and intra-cellular water retention are minimal. Rhaponticum Carthamoides Extract: Rhaponticum carthamoides extract (RCE) is center stage in ANDROBOLIC 250, which derives its traditional name, Maral Root, from the Maral deer that feed on it where it grows wild in Southern Siberia and the Kazakhstan region. The anabolic benefits of RCE have been documented by a large volume of research that began in the early 1970s by Russian scientist Dr. V.N. Syrov and his colleagues, then subsequently by several teams of researchers in Eastern Bloc countries. This research demonstrated that RCE is a classic adaptogen, possessing a wide spectrum of anabolic activities, with remarkable action on the contractile proteins of the skeletal muscles. RCE utilizes pathways that cause a cascading effect, which leads to a number of insulin and IGF-1 responses, including enhancing protein synthesis and glucose uptake, stabilizing glycogen levels, and increasing blood flow to the muscles. Beta-ecdysterone, on the other hand, goes directly to the ribosome and increases what is called translation, the rate at which new protein is being made (Syrov et al. 1984). Among more than a dozen plant species containing ecdysterones only Rhaponticum carthamoides extract undergone through a complete human clinical trials and phytochemical research. Research pointed out that the superior anabolic effect of Rhaponticum carthamoides extract is determined by content of all levseins (ecdysterones) rather than a single 20-beta-ecdysterone, which is abundant in plants outside of Rhaponticum genus. If someone is only listing 20-beta-ecdysterone content on their label, it is likely just a simple “old traditional” attempt to substitute original Rhaponticum carthamoides extract with an inferior plant extract.

During the past twenty years, researchers have been able to isolate and identify specific RCE compounds.
