The University of California reports that Taurine is one of the most abundant amino acids in the central nervous system, and it plays an important role in regulating osmosis and in the protection and function of neurons, or nerve cells. UC also reports that supplementation of Taurine can reduce alcohol dependency and relapse.

The City University of New York found that injected Taurine had significant antiepileptic effects in mice. A reduction in occurrence of tonic seizures was observed, along with a reduced duration of convulsions and mortality rate following seizures.
